All teachers successfully complete the live Music Together Teacher Training, which is built on research in early childhood and music development. We keep our skills fresh through workshops every semester and advanced trainings offered by Music Together Worldwide.
Kate Patterson has been active in the study or leading of music for as long as she can remember. She attended Augusta College in Augusta, GA. where she earned a Bachelors in Music Education. She also holds a Masters Degree in Education from Lesley University, Cambridge MA., with an emphasis on integrating the arts into curriculum and instruction. She taught elementary music for twenty three years, twenty one of those years in the Mat-Su Valley. Her major instrument was voice and she also enjoys playing trombone. She has lived in Alaska since 1992 and is a firm believer in community music. Having been active in leading Church music and participating in many community music groups over the years she believes there should be a place for persons of varying abilities to be able to express themselves musically. She received the 2012 Palmer Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of her musical service to the community. She has been conductor of the Matanuska Susitna Orchestra, a community group with the mission of “making music make a difference," since 2006. Kate has been teaching Music Together since 2015.
Betty Ann Lovmo
Betty Ann Lovmo, originally from Pennsylvania, has spent the last 22 years teaching a variety of elementary grades, including kindergarten thru sixth grade on the beautiful island of Guam. Five of the 22 years she taught elementary music and piano lessons. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and a master’s degree in education from Maranatha Baptist University in Wisconsin. While visiting her grandchildren in Wasilla, she was invited to attend Music Together classes with them and fell in love with the program. Betty Ann recently moved to Wasilla with her husband to be closer to her three grandchildren, who have attended Music Together Classes for four years.
